    Online Chess Group Classes
    Each Chess lessons runs for one hour and is split into two sessions, teaching and playing.

    There are 5 different courses being run during the week.

    Chess classes are conducted on through an online platform called Whereby. Our chess coach shares his teaching screen and shows a particular chess strategy on a chess board.

    Topics covered are – Openings, middle game, endgame strategy, tactics, master games

    During the playing session, children play chess on our platform called Chess Squad
    ( The coach watches the students play and gives feedback during and at the end of their game.

    At the duration of the class, the coach provides online quizzes which they can use to revise their lesson and reinforce what they have learnt.

    The chess coaches name is International Master Javier Gil.

    $120 for Terms 2-4, 2021 (10 weeks)

    Private - One-on-one Lessons (1 to 2 hours)

    Suitable for Beginner, Rookie, Intermediate, Advanced, Elite players

    Private coaching is particularly useful for players who wish to improve their game rapidly, or for those who are already at a strong level and need help with particular topics such as openings, middle and endgame strategies or just help analysing games. A private coach can assist in choosing and developing an opening repertoire, depending on the student’s style of play, explaining typical tactical and strategical themes involved, and also possible plans for the middlegame for both colours. Private coaching is also an ideal setting for the student to ask questions, in which the coach can cater for their individual needs.

    The cost of online private coaching varies from $57 to $90, depending on the level of the coach who is needed and where the lessons take place.

Sydney Academy of Chess is a team of people who have one passion in common: teaching chess to others. We’ve been doing it in New South Wales for 22 years.

The director of the Sydney Academy of Chess is Fide Master Brett Tindall. Brett has been coaching chess for over 26 years and has coached at all major events including Australian Junior Championships and World Junior events.

Brett is not only an experienced coach but also a very experienced player and has competed at both national and international level.

He has won many titles such as NSW junior champion, City of Sydney Junior and Senior Champion; he has also won several age titles at Australian Junior events.

Trained coaches

All of Sydney Academy’s coaches are highly proficient players themselves. Coaches are taught effective teaching methods as well as ways of managing groups of children of all ages. Our chess coaches meet regularly to discuss ways in which our teaching can improve.

Continual Improvement

Sydney Academy of Chess is continually seeking ways of improving its service to schools and the public. We encourage our chess coaches to improve their own playing ability. We also look to teaching methods overseas. Currently three of our coaches hold the titles of Fide trainers.

Sydney Academy of Chess is the biggest chess-coaching firm in NSW, coaching thousands of school children around Sydney every week. Our students range from absolute beginners to NSW and Australian Junior title winners as well as Australian representatives at many World Junior events. Our base is Sydney Chess Centre: Level 1, 30a George street, Burwood.
