The Shimmer Project for Drama Kids 9 - 12

Mashed Theatre & Films • Toowoomba City 4350

When you imagine a shimmer, it evokes the image of moonlight playing on the ocean’s surface, creating a mesmerising dance of light where two worlds collide. In our case, The Shimmer Project symbolises the convergence of two radiant forces; The Lighthouse and Mashed.

We have collaborated with The Lighthouse team to transform their collection of children’s books, authored by young talents from Toowoomba, into captivating Children’s Theatre stage plays. Our primary focus is to use these stage plays as a platform to raise awareness on important societal issues.

Mashed Theatre & Films, 126 Margaret Street, Toowoomba
    Starts: Wednesday 24th July, 2024
    Times: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
    Ages: 9 – 12
    Fee: $540 (Includes 13 classes & 1 performance)

So, you’ve signed up for the Shimmer Project or want to sign up but need a little more information on how it runs? We gotchu…

Your child is enrolled for the Shimmer Project (which spreads across Terms 3 & 4)
Each week our team will work with our students, adapting from page to stage
Once adapted, casting & rehearsals will begin where our students start to see their story and characters come to life
Costumes & Set Pieces are added closer to the date of the performance
At the Book Launch of the children’s book titled ‘Maverick and Melanie’, our students will perform the stage adaptation in front of a live audience at the Armitage Centre on Monday 4th November at 5:00 pm
The play will then become a resource available for purchase by theatre groups or primary schools and a portion of proceeds will go towards foundations on the subject matter to further their research and help others

Following the success of Melanie and Me (reprinted 4 times in 2016), and in collaboration with the Melanoma Institute of Australia, the Year 6 students from St Saviours Primary School have written a new book for an older audience – Maverick and Melanie.

    Maverick and Melanie
    Duration: 20 minutes
Theme: Melanoma Awareness & Sun Safety
Maverick and his friends are on a quest, a never to be repeated mission, to tame the Great Jungle-to-Sea Putt Putt course at the Invitational Once-Only Charity Championship Competition!
Each players knows first-hand what it was like to have a family member struggle with illness, they just had to win the money for research. They had to!
