What do you get when you combine yoga, gymnastics and acrobatics?

Flying Yogis is what - which is the brainchild of Amanda Fuzes, a yoga teacher and trainer who developed the unique programmes that incorporate yoga’s mindfulness with the agility and coordination that gymnastics and acrobatics requires. Amanda and her team love teaching kids that the world is better upside down, which gives you an idea what the classes are all about!

Tell us about yourself and Flying Yogis?

My name is Amanda Fuzes. I am the Director of Flying Yogis. We run Mindfulness, Yoga and Acrobatics programs for children in Sydney’s Inner West, East and North shore.

What will my kids get from your classes?

Our program gives your children fun ways to gain all the tools needed to cope with our hectic lives: focus; trust; confidence; cooperation; self-esteem, awareness; resilience and fearlessness - in a completely non-competitive environment.

What activities do you normally offer for kids – pre-lockdown?

Daily yoga classes for kids of all ages - preschoolers; primary school children; tweens and teens. We also run classes for adults too.

What does a typical class look like?

Our Acro/Yoga/Tumble class is about 20 minutes of yoga to increase focus/concentration/ coordination and body awareness, followed by 35 minutes of tumbling and acro skills. We end with a 5 minute relaxation/meditation.

How are you transitioning the business to social distancing?

We are hosting our current term 2 courses on Zoom. Children are finding it a great way to connect with other kids if they are in isolation. We also have a free Yogis class every morning on our Facebook page that runs for 20 minutes from 8:30am and a Youtube channel with loads of classes; challenges; skills and activities.

How can you help parents during this time of lockdown and isolation?

As a parent of a child with high levels of anxiety, I understand what is going on at home at the moment. The stress of children who aren’t in a structured environment; with parents trying to homeschool while keeping their jobs or their businesses running. These classes are created specifically to address childrens’ mental and physical health.

What does your program offer kids?

It’s children’s yoga – but it’s very active. We teach not only the main yoga poses and salutes to the sun; but also tumbling and acro skills that children love. We show them how to be safe and mindful, yet have fun using every piece of furniture in the house to help them into crazy shapes and flips!

What do kids love most about your activity?

Our inspiring teachers! The games and challenges; relaxation and mindfulness tools. We discuss themes and topics in a way they can relate to. We keep them active, mindful and fit.
